Darwin and Rafa: lords of the goals and assists in the Liga Bwin

Darwin and Rafa are the two SL Benfica names to retain in the 2021/22 season. They became, respectively, the top scorer (26 goals) and the top assistance provider (16 clutch passes) in the Liga Bwin. 

Darwin scores 26 goals in 28 games (0,93 per game), with five braces and three hat-tricks included. He also provided four assists, which increased his straight participation in Benfica goals to 30. 

His 26 goals have particularities and characteristics, that were analyzed by the Official Website. Darwin finished the Liga Bwin with 16 goals scored with the right foot, five with the left and five with the head.

25 out of the 26 goals were scored inside the box; Curiously, he revealed the same propensity to score at Luz or away: 13 goals.

Darwin likes to score early in the game and, therefore, netted the ball more in the 1^st half. He registered 15 in the first 45 minutes and 11 in the 2^nd half. From the 26, four were scored from penalty kicks.

Darwin is assisted many times by his teammates. This scenario was a reality in 19 goals, in a total of 11 assistance providers. In that aspect, Rafa was the one to "feed" the Uruguayan the most, with six assists, followed by Everton, Taarabt and João Mário, with two; Lucas Veríssimo, Diogo Gonçalves, Weigl, Grimaldo, Yaremchuk, Gilberto and Vertonghen complete the list with only one.

In 2021/22, the crown was conquered by Rafa, with 16 assists, doing the same as Pizzi did in 2019/20 and in 2018/19.

The 16 assists of the Portuguese international had 8 receivers, while Darwin was the one to enjoy it the most: six clutch passes. The Ukrainian Yaremchuk received three passes to score and Seferovic two. João Mário, Everton, Gilberto, Gonçalo Ramos and Taarabt were assisted once by Rafa.
