The mystique is in the air! We are counting down to Christmas with an advent calendar
that promises a lot of joy. Every day, a surprise. There are challenges, suggestions and
curiosities about Benfica’s history, but that’s not all... From 1 to 24 December, celebrate with
us and discover our proposals for an even more fun and supportive family Christmas. The Benfica
and Christmas magic are only one click away!
DID YOU KNOW…?
On 1st December 1954, Benfica and all of its fans received
an early Christmas present: the Stadium! Purchased that very same year,
Benfica’s first bus made its debut trip on the opening day of the stadium.
Benfica thus became the first club to buy a vehicle to transport its
athletes. A future on wheels was foretold!
FLY HIGHER
Vitória (15 years old), Gloriosa (19 years old), and Luz
(10 years old) are the three bald eagles that are part of Benfica’s family.
They are all females and each one has a different personality. Create your
glorious mascot in origami and decorate your Christmas tree.
On cold days, enjoying the comfort of home to read and
write is always a good option. If the theme is the history of Benfica, even
better! For today, we have two suggestions:
Imagine and write a story about Christmas and Benfica. Find inspiration
in your hero, who may be a club athlete or a family member and play with
the words! "Once upon a time..."
Only today, in the Benfica online store, use the
code "Livrochalana" to get 10% of discount on the purchase of this book.
COOKIE DAY
To celebrate Cookie Day we share our oatmeal cookie
recipe. The challenge is set: to make a healthy snack for the evenings
sitting on the couch.
Ingredients:
50 gr of peanut butter
Pinch of salt
100 gr of oat flour
50 gr of brown sugar or muscovado sugar
2 eggs (≈ 100 g)
1 container of plain yogurt
1 tsp (teaspoon) of baking powder
1. Pre-heat the oven to 190.º C. 2. Mix all the ingredients until you get a uniform dough. The baking
powder must be the last ingredient added. 3. Line up a baking tray with parchment paper. 4. Form balls with the dough with 30 gr each and place them on the
baking tray. 5. Put the baking tray in the oven and let them cook for about 15 to
17 minutes.
Today we propose a team strength, coordination, and
endurance training with lots of fun! For these exercises, at least one adult
is required to participate. He or she should remain on the ground and be the
base position, while the child is the top, occupying the upper position. In
turn, try each of the acrobatic positions in the image. Have a good workout!
Christmas is a season to share and sharing makes a
difference… Look at Shéu and Vítor Martins! In the 1975/76 season, marked by
exciting victories, both shared the number 6 shirt. After winning the
National Championship, there was a question to answer: who would keep the
shirt? The solution was unusual but simple: the shirt was split in two, half
for each player! Shéu’s half can be seen in the Museum, in area 24 - The
"Black Panther" and Other Legends.
CHRISTMAS COLOURS
At Christmas time, red and white reign on and off the
field. Train your artistic vein with our drawings to colour. Do you know the
colours of the Benfica emblem by heart? Is "creativity" your middle name?
So, let’s get to work, Picasso!
It’s time to decorate the house and think about presents!
Like an elf in Santa’s toy shop, you can create a trophy, a football ball or
a Benfica shirt. Discover the three-dimensional templates to download in the
menu Build in #BenficaMuseumAtHome and don’t
forget: creativity and imagination are the main requirements!
DEAR SANTA…
This Christmas look for new ways to get in touch with
your family and friends. Today, we suggest an increasingly less frequent
practice: writing a letter!
Surprise your family and friends with a letter or greeting card.
Write a letter to Santa and tell him your dreams for this season.
Thank a professional who was important to you in the quarantine days.
Perhaps to health professionals or your teachers... It’s up to you!
You can find a few models and an envelope you can
personalise in the menu
Thank you, Champions! in #BenficaMuseumAtHome.
DID YOU KNOW…?
On this day, 48 years ago, Benfica received its last
trophy by voting, the Newspaper Época Cup. This imposing silver trophy can
be seen in area 26 – Benfica Around the World. In total, the Club has
collected 81 trophies by voting process, which shows its popularity among
the public.
MY ELEVEN
Today, you are Benfica’s manager! In more than 116 years
of history, many were the players who went through the Club. Which ones do
you pick for your dream team? Follow the challenge on Benfica Museum
Instagram page and check out the most voted by the Museum
visitors in the area 21 - My Eleven.
CHAMPION NUTRITION
We know that the Christmas season can involve some food
excesses. So, for today, we propose a healthy breakfast! Roll up your
sleeves and prepare your raspberry smoothie, inspired by the colours of
Benfica.
Ingredients:
100 gr (2/3 of the container) of raspberry high protein yogurt
150 ml of skimmed milk (≈ 1/2 cup)
50 gr of banana (1/2 of a small banana)
30 gr of raspberries
Put all the ingredients in a blender and process at “Black Panther’s” speed
until you get a smooth and creamy texture.
Today we want to test your speed! How? First, reunite the family. Everyone
can participate. Then attach a handkerchief or cloth to the back of your
pants. The cloth will be your "Black Panther’s" tail. Each player must have
one. The objective of the game is to steal the tail of the opponents. The
winner will be the one who, with the same skills of Eusébio, manages to
escape. May the best man win!
An environmental-friendly Christmas! Reuse materials you
have at home and create original gifts for family and friends. What could it
be? A frame? A Christmas ornament? Be inspired by our examples and let your
imagination run wild.
DID YOU KNOW…?
On this day, exactly 60 years ago, Eusébio arrived in
Portugal to play for Benfica. He did not know it, but he would remain
eternalised in the history of the Club and world football as one of the best
players ever!
MUSICAL CHRISTMAS
In 1953, from the pen of Paulino Gomes Júnior and the
voice of Luís Piçarra was born one of the most emblematic musical themes of
Benfica: "Ser Benfiquista" (To be a Benfica fan). If being a Benfica fan is
to have in your soul the immense flame, celebrating Christmas is to listen
to the great musical classics that contribute to the cheerful and magical
atmosphere of this season. Organise a Christmas playlist to listen to on
Christmas Eve and create choreographies for some of the songs. We are sure
it will be a very cheerful evening!
KEEPING TRADITION ALIVE!
João Alves, Benfica player, perpetuated the tradition
created by his grandfather: playing with black gloves! When he debuted his
gloves on the field, in a junior match against Atlético Clube da Malveira,
the athlete scored two of the four goals that gave the victory to Benfica. A
good omen! You too can create a Christmas family tradition that passes from
generation to generation. Exchanging gifts between secret friends, taking a
group photo or wearing Benfica’s Christmas Eve shirt are just a few ideas!
JUDOKAS IN ACTION
Seize your Christmas holidays to play and dance with your
family. Our challenge for today? A game inspired by judo!
To play, you need to squat and face each other. The goal is to
knock down all opponents without touching their faces. Whoever takes down
the opponent more times, wins. Who will have the skill of a judoka?
For today we suggest a fun night of family games. Are you
the king of mime? You’ll have to prove it using our cards. If you prefer to
test your knowledge about Benfica, then the Time Chest board game is the
ideal thing for you. Both are fun ways to anticipate the magical atmosphere
of Christmas Eve. Discover them in the
Games menu in #BenficaMuseumAtHome and may
the best man win!
SPORTS HAVE VALUE
Practice the best sport of all: solidarity! We challenge
you to look for toys, sports props or clothes you no longer wear. Turn them
over to a social institution close to your residence and support those in
need.
In our club, solidarity is the mission of the Benfica Foundation.
Created in 2009, it develops several projects of social, educational and
environmental character. Do you know its work?
Today’s picture is tomorrow’s memory! Just as the
photographic collection of Benfica tells us countless stories, your
Christmas can also be immortalised in photographs... We have some
suggestions!
Explore the Benfica Museum’s
Instagram page and choose a photo. Can you
imitate it accurately?
Film every moment of this Christmas. Grab the camera, gather the whole
family next to the Christmas tree and, before the flash shoots, shout
“Go Benfica!”!
Use #BenficaMuseum and show us the results. We promise to
share the most creative photos.
THE MYSTIQUE OF ABC
Let’s think very hard! For every letter of the alphabet,
find a word alluding to the Benfica universe. Symbols, players, managers,
venues, and places where the Club played are examples of how you can
complete your mystical alphabet. To make the exercise more challenging, try
to do it in less than two minutes!
CHRISTMAS CAROL
Ho, ho, ho! We were inspired by the magic of Christmas
and the mystique of Benfica to create the most beautiful Christmas story
ever. The elders will have the task of telling our story, while the younger
ones will get carried away by the adventure of the imagination... Find this
Christmas story
here.
Over the past few days, we’ve shared stories, activities,
challenges and curiosities... With the hope that we have made this season
more fun and supportive, we wish a MERRY CHRISTMAS to all those who
accompany the Benfica Museum.
It’s too early to look into this surprise...
Come back on the right day to discover it!
