Grimaldo, Sport Lisboa e Benfica's left-back, won the Liga Bwin's Defender of the Month award in February. The Spanish athlete collected 27.78% of the votes of the competition's head coaches.

A starter in the three matches played by the team in this period, Grimaldo played 270 minutes and contributed with an assist to the 9 points amassed against Casa Pia (h), Boavista (h) and Vizela (a).

In this distinction, the left-winger overcame competition from teammate António Silva and benfiquista Tomás Araújo, on loan at Gil Vicente, both with 13.49% of the preferences.

So far in the 2022/23 edition of Liga Bwin only Benfica players have won the Best Defender award. Grimaldo repeats the distinction for the months of December/January, while Morato was the most voted in August. António Silva was distinguished in September and in October/November.
