In 1949, it achieved its first triumphs, collectively winning the "Automobile Contest" and, individually, the "Sea Contest" by Frederico Augusto Ferreira, and the "River Contest" by Manuel Nunes.
With the progressive development of the sport in the Club, the "reds" secured access to the main national level in 2006. With steadily improving performances, in 2008, Benfica had an excellent season and became vice-national champions, a feat repeated in 2013. On October 22, 2017, Benfica won the National Championship of the II Division - South Zone.
Individually, highlights include Gonçalo Rocha, who won the National ARCPD Championship in hopes in 2006, and Martinho Antunes, who became the national champion in 2008. Rui Gomes also stood out with the "eagle on his chest" by becoming vice-national champion in 2009 and in 2012.
In women's sports fishing, Virgínia Ferreira, who joined Benfica in 2012, had an immediate impact by becoming the national champion in 2013 and in 2014.
