Wines from the Lisbon Region

Whoever climbs to the top of Montejunto and looks in the direction of the sea will be dazzled by the long green blanket stretching out at their feet. And, if you notice, it will be easy to realize that many of the patches of this blanket are plots of vines, aligned in different directions.

A Litle bit of history

Lisboa

French Invasions

Eça de Queirós' novels

The wine from Bucelas, one of the region's Denominations of Origin, was very popular during the French Invasions, and was exported to England during this period as it was much appreciated by the English soldiers. In fact, Wellington himself appreciated it, having introduced it to the court. Colares wine was so common on the tables that Eça de Queirós describes it in his novels about 19th century Portugal.

What to expect

Different pleasures

The Lisbon region is as productive as it is heterogeneous, due to its geographical variety. Vineyards can be found near the cool and windy Atlantic, as well as in the hot interior, resulting in different pleasures. What is certain is that some of our most interesting wines are born here: for example, the excellent Casal Santa Maria, produced in the westernmost vineyard of Europe!
