In 2011, with the creation of the Combat Sports department at Benfica, a new discipline was introduced, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). These are martial arts that include fighting moves in a combat position and ground fighting techniques, being "a mixture of various martial arts", combining the knowledge of jiu-jitsu, wrestling, muay thai, kickboxing, judo and boxing.
Throughout its history, the sport at Benfica has had great athletes such as Isam Rachid, Marco Lança, Rui Pavanito and, above all, Vítor Pinto. These athletes took part in the final of the 32nd edition of Showfight, held in May 2016 at the Estoril Casino, which pitted Portugal against Russia. Representing Portugal, Vítor Pinto became WKN 77 kg European champion.
