João Mário, Sport Lisboa e Benfica's athlete, was elected Best Midfielder of the Month of the Liga Bwin 2022/23 in February. The Portuguese international won 32.54% of the votes of the competition's head coaches.

A starter in the three matches played in this period of the competition, João Mário scored four goals – against Casa Pia (2) and Vizela (2) – and provided two assists.

The most voted by the managers, the Benfica midfielder João Mário surpassed his teammates Aursnes and Chiquinho, who collected 11.11% and 8.73% of the preferences, respectively.
