In preparation for the 2025/26 season, the women's football team of Benfica faced Atlético Madrid in an Iberian duel on Saturday, August 23, as part of the V Trofeo Ciudad de Alcalá 2025. The five-time national champions put in a positive and promising performance, leading the scoreboard twice at the Centro Deportivo Alcalá de Henares. The 2-2 score at the end of 90 minutes meant that the winner had to be decided by the penalty shootout, and the Colchoneras were more effective (4-1).

Given the result at the end of regulation time, a penalty shootout was held to determine which team would take home the trophy. For the five-time Portuguese champions, Christy Ucheibe (crossbar) and Cristina Prieto (post) missed, and Neide Guedes converted with style. On the other side, the Colchoneras proved more accurate in this aspect of the game and emerged victorious (4-1).
