João Mário, the Sport Lisboa e Benfica player, was named the Liga Bwin best midfielder of September. The Portuguese international received 18% of the head coaches' votes in the competition.

During this period, the Benfica player featured in three matches and scored one goal, in the match against Vitória de Guimarães, away.

João Mário surpassed Sporting players Matheus Nunes and João Palhinha, both with 14% of the votes cast.
