João Mário was elected to the Liga Bwin Team of the Season, in the voting carried out by the captains and coaches who compete in the competition. With 17 goals scored in the competition, his best record of his career, the midfielder was crucial in Benfica's path to the 38th League Title.

Used in 33 of 34 games played in the 2022/23 Championship, the number 20 was the 5th most used player by Roger Schmidt in Benfica's victorious campaign (2657 minutes, injury time not included) and was only two goals behind Gonçalo Ramos, the national champions' top scorer in the competition.

João Mário also added seven assists to his tally, finishing the season as the player with the highest participation in goals for Benfica in the Liga Bwin.
