On a Sunday that was predicted to be rainy, the sun came out, albeit shyly, and with it the heat, to help with the festivities of the 16th edition of the António Leitão Benfica Race, which once again brought together thousands of participants on Sunday, April 7. Running or walking, in a celebration for the whole family, women, men, young people and even pets gathered around the Estádio da Luz for another lively morning, in what is already one of the most important events on the national athletics scene.

“We saw a lot of celebration, joy, Benfiquismo and glory, inside and outside this stadium,” Ana Oliveira, Benfica's athletics coordinator, told Benfica, about the 17th António Leitão Benfica Race, which she considered ‘another great success’ and which took place on Sunday, March 23. With Benfica's André Pereira and Paula Martins winning their respective races, and with an impressive 12,500 participants, the race was also marked by a fundraiser for the Pais21 association. The newly crowned five-time national champions, Benfica's women's football team, were present at the Benfica Official Store at the Estádio da Luz on Tuesday afternoon, April 15. The Inspiradoras interacted with the many fans who lined up - some even waited more than two hours for the session to start - and who didn't waste the opportunity to talk to the protagonists of the historic feat and remember the moment with photographs. From the youngest to the oldest, everyone left satisfied. “Filipa, you're the best coach in the world,” said one Benfica fan.

COP distinguishes Benfica athletes

Benfica athletes Telma Monteiro and Pedro Pichardo were honored by the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) on Thursday, November 14, at the 2024 Olympic Celebration, a gala held at SUD Hall Lisbon. Judoka Telma Monteiro was awarded the Prestige Award, which honors “sports agents for the excellence, notability and prestige of their careers”. Pedro Pichardo, triple jump athlete and Paris 2024 silver medalist, received the Sports Excellence Award, which is given to “Olympic medalists, World or European Champions”. Domingos Almeida Lima, Benfica's vice-president, represented the club at the ceremony.
