Gustavo Marques, a player of Benfica's B team, was named the Liga 2 Defender of the Month for January and has already received his award. The young central defender received 10.42% of the votes from the competition's managers.

"I want to thank God, my teammates for the work we've been doing, and the coaches who voted for me," said Gustavo Marques, in statements to BTV.

During the period in question, the defender played 270 minutes on the pitch and was a total player in the three matches Benfica B played. He actively contributed to an unbeaten month, with wins over FC Porto B (2-1) and Leixões (4-0), as well as an away draw against Torreense (1-1). In addition to his defensive security, Gustavo Marques also made his mark in attack, scoring a goal.

Aware of the importance of teamwork, the number 76 made a point of recognizing the contribution of his teammates, sharing the credit with the group.

"This award isn't just mine, it belongs to the whole team, who are always with me, encouraging me," he mentioned.
