The first phase of the plant included the installation of 1,200 panels, which were estimated to reach an annual production of over 447 MWh and annual savings of about 52 thousand Euros. However, between April 2020 and April 2021, more than 800 MWh were produced, and almost 60 thousand euros were saved in this period, exceeding initial expectations.
This has set the stage for a second phase of expansion of the photovoltaic plant in the summer of 2021. An additional 650 solar panels have been added on the Benfica Campus, increasing the total solar energy production capacity to 1125 MWh per year, in an estimated savings of 79 thousand Euros.
Although these panels already produce energy for self-consumption, the goal is not energy self-sufficiency, but that consumption from the grid during the day reaches levels of only 10%.
By investing in solar energy, SL Benfica took an important step towards reducing its ecological footprint, increasing the efficiency of its facilities by 18.6%.
These good results reinforce the focus on solar energy and energy efficiency in SL Benfica's plans, with ambitious goals for the coming years.
