UCO Collection

In this ECO Benfica project, the UCO produced in the SLB Complex gives rise to ecological detergent.

Used cooking oil (UCO), when improperly discharged into sewage, cause problems in wastewater treatment systems. In addition, only one liter of domestic oil lying in the kitchen drain can contaminate at once 1 million liters of water, enough for the survival of one person, up to 40 years of age.

To combat this problem, a system was implemented to collect UCO produced by F&B operators from the Stadium Complex.

The implementation of this internal system that binds F&B operators to deliver the UCO properly packaged in suitable barrels to the SLB Ecocenter, ensures that the applicable legislation is fully complied, with no margin for disposal of UCO in the sewage system.

Ambióleo is the specialized operator that collects and replaces barrels, subsequently delivering the oils to EcoX, a 100% Portuguese start-up, winner of an innovation award for its technology used to transform UCO into 100% biodegradable detergents.

The second goal of the project is the creation of a Circular Economy chain, which is complete with the use of these detergents and cleaning products by SLB in the Stadium laundry and in the cleaning of floors.
