Project "Faz da tua Escola um Viveiro" [Make your School a Nursery] marked the Day of the Autochthonous Forest.

Celebration of the Day of the Autochthonous Forest
The Benfica Foundation marked the Day of the Autochthonous Forest (celebrated on November 23), but since its creation, it effectively implements initiatives and projects that contribute to the objectives of each area of intervention.
And, in this domain, the Benfica Foundation has been developing, since 2018, and in partnership with Lousitânea - Liga de Amigos da Serra da Lousã, the project "Faz da tua Escola um Viveiro!". This is how it has been possible to involve thousands of children from the elementary school in environmental education, which culminates in a planting action that takes place every year around November 23.
This year it was held on November 29, in collaboration with the Municipality of Oliveira do Hospital and Eptoliva, allowing, once again, schools, students, and other local entities to be agents of change by actively contributing to the reforestation of their territory. It was a symbolic action with the planting of a few hundred autochthonous trees, but the action has continuity through the partner Lousitânea - Liga de Amigos da Serra da Lousã, which annually has the goal of 10,000 autochthonous trees planted.
Reforestation with native species has a double positive effect to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality, since it ensures greater resilience to fires, increases the capacity for carbon sequestration, and therefore reduces the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. The ECO Benfica project has thus joined the Benfica Foundation and Lousitânea, monitoring the emissions that SL Benfica offsets every year through this environmental education project.
It is, without a doubt, a project to be maintained and strengthened, given its positive impact in terms of reforestation of the country, awareness-raising, especially among the younger generation, and the effective promotion of sustainability.
