Barrenechea joins Sport Lisboa e Benfica! In his first statements as a Benfica player, exclusively to BTV, the 24-year-old midfielder said he was “very happy” to have signed for “one of the biggest clubs in Europe.”

Officially announced and presented on Friday, July 18, as the new face of the Eagles' professional soccer team, the athlete who will wear the Sacred Mantle with the number 5 introduced himself as a player, did not hide his joy at sharing the dressing room with captain Otamendi, and left a message for the fans.

"It feels really good. I'm very happy, I'm proud to belong to this club. I'm at one of the biggest clubs in Europe, so I'm very happy," said Barrenechea.

Benfica is a club that is very popular in Argentina, with many players passing through the club and enjoying success. Do you want to be the next Argentine to succeed at Benfica?

Many Argentinians have played for Benfica, each one has made their own way, I am here to make mine and I hope everything goes well.

What will it be like playing with Otamendi, one of the stars of Argentine football and current captain of Benfica?

It will be a joy to share the team and day-to-day life with Otamendi. I met him in the national team; he is a captain, a leader. I am very happy.

How would you describe yourself as a player?

I'm a skilled player, I'm good at two things... aerial play. I'd rather you watch me play and draw your own conclusions.

What are your goals for this season?

My goals are the same as Benfica's: to fight for everything, as Benfica's history dictates.
