Pedro Casinha, Benfica's canoeist, won the gold medal at the Junior and Under-23 Canoe Sprint World Championships in the K2 500 meters on Sunday, July 27, in Montemor-o-Velho.

Teaming up with Gustavo Gonçalves, Pedro Casinha and his teammate finished the race (Under-23) with a time of 1:33.12 minutes, beating the Italian duo of Francesco Lanciotti and Nicolo Volo (1:34.01 minutes). In third place was the Slovenian boat, crewed by Matevz Manfreda and Anze Pikon (1:34.13 minutes).
